Entryway and Door Makeover Update!

Do you like updates on projects that you previously ready about? I do! So, I thought I would share an update on some projects that I previously posted about. One project was our entryway makeover, and another was on a makeover we completed on the interior doors in our house. One of the doors that we wanted to update happens to be in our entryway, so that combines both projects.

We completed most of the interior door updates pretty quickly, but saved two more difficult sets for last. If you remember, the doors in our house were all louvered with slats on the top and bottom part of the doors. We updated them by creating panels to cover the slats and created an overlayed design that is less beachy and flows better with the MCM feel of our house.

As a quick reminder, below is a before and after of one of the doors:

This is a bathroom door. The front of the door is shown above, the back below.

When we got to the door we needed to update in our entry, we paused because I was unsure what to do. The entry has multiple doors, and they function differently than other rooms. One of the doors leads to our laundry room and a bathroom. It is opposite our glass entry doors.

This is how the laundry door looked before our project.

There are no windows in the laundry room and it can feel dark, so I was hoping to create an opening in this door. I also like the idea of being able to look out of this door to see what is going on, while I am in the laundry room. We thought about making this door into a dutch door, but ultimately felt like that would take up precious space when open. We also thought about cutting out the top slats and making the entire top square a window with glass, but that didn’t feel right with the rest of the entry.

Our entry doors, opposite to the laundry door, are full glass. When we moved in they had stationary blinds. I removed the blinds and covered the glass with a frosted film. I wasn’t 100% happy with how that looked, so I cut diamonds out of the frosted film and added some gold starburst decals in each diamond.

These photos show the design on our entry doors.

Since the laundry door is so close to the entry doors, I felt like they all needed to correlate. Finally, my husband came up with the idea of cutting diamonds into the laundry door, and putting glass in, to create kind of a of window. I thought it was perfect!

The photos above show the panel we added onto the bottom, to match the other doors we updated throughout the house, and the top panel with the “window” cut out.

The photos below show the top panel/cut out with the lights on and off.

We finally settled on one diamond in the top section and used plexiglass. I finished it with a matching starburst decal and I think it turned out perfectly!

The final set of doors left to update are a pair of doors on our HVAC closet. When we moved in, one side of these doors had been altered with the louvers cut out and wall vents clumsily installed over the opening. This was to allow some airflow for the HVAC unit.

I knew what I wanted to do with these doors right away, but it has taken us four years to actually complete this project. It always seemed to fall down the list. I’m sure others can relate!

This is how the doors looked when we moved in.

We started by removing all of the louvers and installing new handle hardware. I was already much happier with just the openings, haha!

We covered each opening with metal screening. My husband framed them out and I painted everything a fresh white in the same color as our walls and trim.

And, here is the finished update! I am so happy with how this turned out. It is clean looking, functional and both sides match.

This door update project has been really rewarding for us. We saved a lot of money versus purchasing new doors, and we didn’t have to hang any doors! I am very grateful for my talented and patient husband. It feels great to have completed updates on every interior door in our house.

Thank you for following along! I hope these projects provide inspiration for your projects.
